Hospital Price Transparency Platform

Data EngineeringWeb Platform

Hospitals are federally required to publish their prices, but the filings are multi-gigabyte files no patient could ever read. We built the pipeline and platform that turns them into thousands of cited, human-readable price pages.

Hospital Price Transparency Platform

The objective

Federal law requires every hospital to publish machine-readable price files. In practice, those files are enormous, inconsistent, and unreadable. It's transparency that no actual patient can use, and existing comparison sites fill the gap with estimates and modeled averages nobody can verify.

The strategy

We built the machine that does the reading. An automated pipeline discovers each hospital's filing, parses whatever format it arrives in, normalizes it against a quality rubric, and publishes only what passes. Every page cites its source document and date, structured so both search engines and AI assistants can verify rather than guess. The architecture is deliberately lean (serverless database, object storage, scheduled jobs) so a national dataset refreshes continuously without a team behind it.
